Samsung Galaxy Note 2 vs Kindle Fire HD & Nexus 7

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2 has won hearts all over the world, notwithstanding its price-tag. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 offers a lot more than the others, which makes it the winner on paper. This includes things such as portability, being able to make calls and having the best camera. However, the phablet on the other hand is let down only by the price tag, which is twice that of the tablets. So today, we're comparing the Galaxy Note 2 with some of the more affordable best-selling tablets like Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD to see if they'd make for a suitable alternative instead.

Display: However the downside is that the phablet has a smaller display. Both the tablets come with a display of 7 inches. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 offers 256ppi, while the two tablets have 216ppi.

Processor: The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has the quad core 1.6Ghz processor with 2GB RAM. However if processing power is not a top priority and you just want something that allows you to browse the net, play basic games and check your email, then the quad cores of the Kindle Fire HD with 1GB of RAM and the Google Nexus 7 are equally as good.

OS: The Kindle Fire HD still runs on Android 4.0, while the Nexus 7 is available with Android 4.2 and the Galaxy Note 2 runs on Android 4.1.2, putting the Nexus in front.

Price tag: Both the tablets are available in the $199-$299 range, while the Galaxy Note 2 will set you back by over $800 for the unlocked version.

Storage: The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 comes with support for SD card up to 64GB. The Kindle Fire HD and Google Nexus 7 have both got 32GB of storage internally.

Camera: If you are looking for a device with a superb camera then it would have to be the 8MP on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. It also has a camera of 1.9 megapixels on the front. But, if you are happy with your current smartphone and are just looking for a device that can let you access the internet, we don’t think you’d be too disheartened with both tablets’ front cameras.

The main differentiator: The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 offers something that neither of the tablets can and that is ability to make cellular phone calls. This means that another device is not needed if you want to make calls and text. You can make calls, send and receive SMS’s, in addition to doing everything else that a tablet does.

Frankly speaking, if you are looking for a tablet being able to make calls with a superb camera, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 may be your best option. If you don’t need the best camera and ability to make phone calls, save yourself a huge chunk of dough and go for the Google Nexus 7 or Amazon Kindle Fire HD. That would be more sensible.
